Event Details

The race aims to replicate the route used by Charles in 1651 but without the certain death if you are caught.

Though you can’t use a horse or have someone with you all the ways as he did, there are however a few more shops along the way.

Trevor Antill of the MW society had the route adopted on the UK OS maps and we follow a combination of this map route and the detailed guide books. For simplification we use the shortest possible route indicated in the guide books without any of the optional listed places to visit or longer alternative routes suggested.

As you are not being chased and your only enemies are time, tiredness and your own abilities we only give you 14 days to complete the event with cut off times at the various CP locations along the way. This means an average of 43 miles completed each day every day for 2 weeks.

If 43 miles sounds easy then remember you need to carry compulsory kit, navigate, eat, sleep and manage yourself physically and mentally through each leg. You only get access to your drop bags and support around every 45 miles or so. This can mean 24 hours plus on your own trapsing through the stunning english countryside.

So far in 3 years 17 people have started the event with only 3 finishers, all in 2018. It’s more of an adventure challenge than a race and whether you finish or not you will have had very much a journey into yourself and a real challenge set before you that will test you to your limits and maybe then some.

The event travels through some of the most historical and stunning English countryside, from Shakespear’s Stratford-upon-Avon to ancient Roman Villa’s and ancient forest and hills.

You will be tracked throughout the event with Tracking devices from Open Tracking.
